Now stuck in G-Town...

We are STUCK in G-Town.  I had to get back to an Immigration Office before 3/9 as my Visa expires then.  Kim got hers extended when she went back to the States in January.  G-Town is the only Port of Entry in the Exumas…so here we are.  When I went to Immigration, they said I was too early and that they do extensions a “few days” before it expires.  When I asked how many days, they said “a few”.  It’s now Sunday 3/2 so I’ll try on Monday…or so.

However, on our way here we stopped at Rat Cay for some snorkeling.  It’s a neat place so we stayed two days.  Day one we got two lobsters and had then broiled over a Caesar Salad for dinner.  Then on day two, we got one more lobster and then two HUGE Conch.  Check them out in the pics!  Kim got the biggest one.  She’s now “Conch Girl”.  We had the lobster in a lobster salad for lunch and the Conch became a great Cracked Conch dinner.  This is the life!  We did some fishing but only got one King Mackerel.

The weather isn’t giving us a good window to go southeast so we wait on the weather also.  We’re planning to go to Long Island which is 21 km southeast of G-Town.  I’d rather not pound into 20 kt. winds to get there.  By the way, we will cross the Tropic of Cancer when we go there.  Question of the day kids: what is the significance of the Tropic of Cancer?  The winner will get a prize.

With the weather being a little feisty, we are doing some onboard cooking.  Check out the roast chicken…yummy.  We also made flour tortillas for the first time (Exuma Markets was out of them).

Since the Georgetown Cruisers Regatta is next week, the harbor is getting full.  There are 300 boats here and the activity schedule is unbelievable.  There is a masked ball on the beach and there are mask making lessons offered.  This place is nothing more than an adult day camp on boats.  We spent yesterday on Volleyball Beach with some new friends and had some more great Conch Salad by Johnny.  Oh, we had lunch on Hamburger Beach and had…how did you guess…hamburgers!  Of course beer and rum is plentiful.

We really want to get out of here before Regatta Week as it will get even crazier…if that is possible.  With 300 boats, there are probably 1,000 people roaming about.  Hopefully we will have a great update on Long Island soon.  Way too many rules, plans, and schedules here.
